We Care

Tekstar’s philosophy of sustainability goes hand in hand with its responsibility to understand people and the environment apart from its economic responsibilities.
In order to exist in the future Tekstar acknowledges that it is crucial to provide this understanding throughout the company and in all other collaborations.
Adopting the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations and continuing its management with the motto "Be a Part of the Change", our company has started a movement called "We Care" . In order to show the importance Tekstar attaches to its environmental responsibilities, and to inspire the institutions we work, we share our stance on the issues for continuation of our World.

Sustainable Cotton

  • Sustainable cotton is cotton grown consciously with minimal environmental impact, can support viable producer livelihoods and communities, and can do so in the face of long-term ecological constraints and socioeconomic pressures.
  •
  • Considering the fact that around 55% of the fiber used in textiles is cotton, paying attention to sustainable cotton plays a major role for both our environment and also for human health because of the use of pesticides.
  •
  • Keeping in mind the importance of sustainable cotton, we primarily use Better Cotton and also have access to Fair Trade Cotton and Certified Organic Cotton fabrics.

  • BCI- Better Cotton Initiative: The Better Cotton Initiative exists to make global cotton production better for the people who produce it, better for the environment it grows in and better for the sector’s future, by developing Better Cotton as a sustainable mainstream commodity. (www.bettercotton.org)

  • STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® is world's best-known label for textiles tested for harmful substances.Tekstar works only with fabric and accessories suppliers that has OEKO-TEX certification, so that our customers can be certain that every component of their article, i.e. every thread, button and other accessories, has been tested for harmful substances and that the article therefore is harmless for human health.In the OEKO-TEX test they take into account numerous regulated and non-regulated substances, which may be harmful to human health. In many cases the limit values for the STANDARD 100 go beyond national and international requirements.
  • Being aware of the importance of the effects of the fabrics and the dyes used for them, on humans and the environment,, Tekstar uses special environmentally friendly dye recipes for the fabrics to be used in production. Thus, dyed products have high fastnesses of 20-25%.
  • High quality raw materials also increase strength rates up to 25%. Thus, the product;
  • •has a longer life cycle,
  • •It is cleaned in a shorter time at lower temperatures. (up to 20% energy savings)

  • In order to accelerate Tekstar’s sustainability journey, Tekstar bases its sustainability progress on Higg Index tools. Developed by the Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC), the Higg Index is the leading assessment for standardized supply chain sustainability assessment. Higg Index,which is widely used by many brands; is a tool package that enables the measurement of environmental and social sustainability performances.

  • Thanks to our partners, Tekstar is one of the first manufacturers in Turkish market, to offer promotions and workwear made from recycled polyester. At least 5% of the production is made from recycled fabric.
  • In terms of quality almost the same as virgin polyester, but its production requires 59 percent less energy compared to regular polyester.
  • Recycled poly reduces co2 emissions by 32 percent in comparison to regular polyester.
  • Through polyester recycling we are avoiding the use of new raw material and also reduce the amount of residual waste.
  • Garments from recycled polyester aim to be continuously recycled without degradation of quality.

Recycled Plastic Bags

  • With 144 tons per day, Turkey ranks first among the countries that dump plastic waste into the Mediterranean (WWF Turkey).
  • It can take 500 years for plastic bags to decompose in nature. Although the average life expectancy in the seas is 35-60 years, it causes suffocation and poisoning the sea creatures. In addition, microplastics mixed with nature prevent the photosynthesis of planktons and disrupt the carbon dioxide absorption function of the oceans from the atmosphere.
  • Oxo-biodegradable bags, which have been developed in recent years, do not pose a threat to the ocean, atmosphere, and human and animal health by dissolving 100% in water and not creating microplastics.
  • The use of recycled plastic bags reduces carbon emissions due to the processes applied to reproduce and destroy these wastes in nature.
  • Tekstar uses 60% recycled bags and these bags are 100% water soluble

Green Energy

  • Different carbon dioxide emissions of different energy production types;
  • •Solar, Wind, Hydro Electricity: max 100 gCO2eq/kWh
  • •Coal, Oil, Natural Gas: max 1.200 gCO2eq/kWh
  • The carbon footprint of renewable green energy is 92% less in kWh.
  • As Tekstar, we use I-REC certified Green Energy from sustainable and naturally regenerative sources.

Green Energy
  • The International Green Energy Certificate (I-REC) is the Energy Quality Certificate implemented by the "International REC Standard Foundation", which aims to determine a worldwide green energy standard by ensuring the traceability of the source and attribute of the energy produced.
  • A certificate is generated for every 1 MWh of electricity produced in renewable energy facilities (solar, wind, hydroelectric, geothermal and biomass). Thanks to this system, which enables each unit of electricity produced to be tracked starting from its source and to the final consumer, it contributes to consumers making a conscious and reliable choice.

Post-use Recycle

  • Used clothing and surplus fabrics can also be recycled. After end of use the accessories on the collected clothing products are removed manually and different fabric types seperated and sorted. Disassembled accessories can also be upcycled to contribute to the circular economy or could be donated to those in young design courses. Thus, the amount of waste is reduced.
  • Manual disassembly can benefit the day-to-day economy in settlements close to your facilities. This process can also be carried out in our workshop in Sinop, which has 99% female employees.
  • Tekstar holds the Global Recycled Standard (GRS) certificate. GRS are product standards established to monitor and verify the recycling content in the end product throughout the supply chain. All steps related to recycling are carried out in accordance with the standard with this certificate.
  • The fabrics, which are sorted according to their type and color, are converted into regenerated fibers by mechanical or chemical processes, and then combined with new fibers (or recycled polyester) into yarn. Since the product is in the color of the recycled fabrics, re-dyeing is not done. This will reduce energy, water consumption and prevent waste water.
    Gains to be obtained from fabric recycling in general;
    •Waste reduction,
    •Reducing energy use and preventing carbon emissions,
    •Reducing water use, preventing waste water generation
